Welcome to the SoCro Art ‘Harmony in Diversity’ art competition. Our aim is to celebrate the richness of artistic diversity and the unique perspectives each artist brings to our South London community.  

The competition is about ARTISTIC DIVERSITY representing all styles, genres, techniques and skills of artworks made by artists irrespective of their backgrounds, age, gender or experience. 

You will find below all the information required to participate, including terms and conditions.

  • Categories: painting, drawing, graffiti, photography, digital art and textile, any mixed media artwork that can be hung on a wall!

How to Enter:
  • Submission Process:
    • Complete the online registration form
    • Upload high-resolution Jpeg, Jpg or PNG images of your artwork (around 3MB max.) along with a brief description and artist’s statement (200 words max.). Each image should include a title and the name of the artist. Here some high-level tips on how to take a photo of your work:
      • Good lighting, with no shadows falling across it
      • Tightly crop the photograph to the work
      • No frame in the photograph, unless it is integral to the work
      • Images must be free of copyright stamps or watermarks
      • If the photograph is not a true representation of the original work, SoCro Art reserve the right to exclude the work from the competition and void your entry.
  • Fees: Each artist may submit up to three pieces of artwork. £12 for 1x entry, £20 for 2x entries, £27 for 3x entries. 25% of any funds raised after cost will be donated to a local charity.
  • Deadline: All entries must be received by Sunday 5th January 2025
  • Refunds. You may withdraw your work from the competition by contacting inf@socroartfair.co.uk however there are no refunds on entry fees
  • Artwork Delivery and Collection (if not sold): This will be the responsibility of the entrant, either in person or via a courier. See below details. 
Artist Prizes
The below prizes will be awarded to the top 3 winning entries voted in by the public, with the possibility of additional or higher-value prizes depending on the number of entries submitted and any additional prize donations received. Organisers reserve the right to upsize the prize offerings accordingly.

Eligibility
“Unity through visual art, showcasing diverse perspectives and expressions that coexist beautifully”

  • Open to all artists aged 16+ - students, emerging or established artists - across South London, including boroughs of Bexley, Bromley, Croydon, Greenwich, Kingston, Lambeth, Lewisham, Merton, Richmond, Southwark, Sutton and Wandsworth, including Surrey and Kent counties. Submissions from artists outside the South London region (in the UK or abroad) might be selected for the exhibition, but they will be put on the waiting list until the full review of all the entries is completed by Sunday 5th January 2025.
  • Each artist may submit up to three pieces of artwork
  • Submission Guidelines:
    • All entries must be original works created by the submitting artist. You cannot enter a collaborative piece as a collective.
    • The submission must be accompanied by a completed registration form and entry fee
    • All works must be the Intellectual Property of the artist.
Artwork Specifications
  • Paintings: Maximum size of 1.2m x 1.5m (limited spaces) and must be ready to hang
  • Media: No restrictions as long as the artwork can be hung on a wall
  • Display:
    • All display items should have hanging fixings attached to the rear of the artwork
    • Labels should be attached to the bottom of the artwork, clearly labelled with the artist's name, title of the work, medium and dimensions 
  • Judging Criteria:
  • Originality: the artwork should showcase creativity and uniqueness, demonstrating the artist’s individual style and vision. Copies or replicas of existing works will not be considered
  • Technical skill and execution: level of technical skills in the chosen medium and artist’s control
  • Composition and Design: the overall composition and use of elements such as colours, form, balance, and space to create a sense of harmony
  • Overall Visual and Emotional Impact: ability of the artwork to evoke an emotional response or connection with the viewer beyond the visual
  • The selection of artwork to be taken forward to public vote will be by Liberté d'Expression staff to reflect the diversity of South London, ensure representation of wide range of backgrounds, perspectives, and artistic practices. 
Notification of Selected Entries and Winners
  • Artist Notification of Selected Entries: Up to 70 artwork will be selected for the art competition (subject to space allocation). Artists whose submissions have been selected for the art competition will be notified via email by 20th January and will have a week to confirm their participation. It is the responsibility of the artist to ensure that they provide a valid and active email address. 
  • Public Announcement of Selected Entries: The selected entries will be publicly announced on the competition’s website and social media channels on 1st February. Artists consent to the public display of their name, artwork title, and images of their work.
  • Top 3 Winners Notification: The top three winners of the art competition will be notified via email by 30th April.
  • Public Announcement of Winners: The public announcement of the top three winners will be made on or after 30th April, across the competition’s official platforms, including the website, social media, and other promotional channels and materials.
Delivery and Collection
  • Artists will need to organise the delivery and pick up (if not sold) of their artwork themselves from the venue. Delivery and collections outside of these hours will not be possible.
  • Drop Off: Artists must deliver their selected artwork on Saturday 1st March between 9AM and 4PM at the Click Clock Gallery (inside the Clock Tower Café), 9 Katharine St, Croydon CR9 1ET. All artworks must be ready for display, framed or mounted, as necessary. The organisers are not responsible for any unprepared artwork. All artworks must be delivered in secure packaging to prevent damage during transit. The artists are responsible for ensuring their work is adequately protected. Artwork can be delivered by courier. Please notify courier details prior to delivery. Detailed instructions will be provided upon selection.
  • Pick Up: If not sold, artists must collect their artwork on Saturday 29th March between 9AM and 4PM at the Click Clock Gallery (inside the Clock Tower Café), 9 Katharine St, Croydon CR9. Artists or their representatives must present a valid ID and proof of submission such as confirmation email when collecting the artwork. Prior authorisation from the artists must be provided if someone else is collecting the artwork. Unclaimed artwork will be considered abandoned and may be disposed of or donated at the discretion of the exhibition organisers.
Judging Process
  • Selection of artwork: Not all entries will be selected for the art competition. The entry fee is non-refundable. This applies to all entrants, including those whose submissions are not selected for the competition.
  • Winners will be voted by the public over the course of the four-week exhibition in March 2025
  • Notification of Winners: Winners will be notified via email and announced on our website and socials by Wednesday 30th April 2025 with prizes awarded shortly after
  • Second chance opportunity: Unsuccessful entries may have the opportunity to be showcased for a limited period during the exhibition. While these entries will not be eligible for the art prizes, artists will be able to offer their work for sale with no commission charged. A 10% contribution on any sales will be donated to a local charity.
Exhibition and Sale
  • Selected artworks will be exhibited and sold at Click Clock Art Gallery in Croydon
  • The sale of works and any VAT payable is the responsibility of the artist
  • Any works sold must remain in the exhibition for the full duration.
  • No commission on sales
  • Promotion: Selected artists will be asked to participate in promotional activities such as social media. Artwork images may be used by the press and will be used to promote the exhibition and artists’ work via the SoCro Art platforms. By participating, each entrant grants SoCro Art permission to use their name, artwork, likeness or comments for publicity purposes without payment or additional consideration
  • All artwork selected will be for sale and collected by the buyers at the end of the exhibition. A 10% donation from the proceeds will be deducted from the sale price and given to a local charity.
  • Copyright and Reproduction:
    • Artists retain copyright of their work
    • By entering the competition, artists grant SoCro Art the right to use images of their artwork for offline and online marketing and promotional purposes related to the competition and exhibition. This may include, but is not limited to, social media posts, press releases, exhibition catalogues, websites, email newsletters and printed materials. Artwork images may also be used by the press for promotional purposes and/or by third party partners to promote this exhibition and future iterations of the SoCro Art Competition. Visitors to the exhibition will be allowed to photograph the works which may be shared on their own social media platforms.
Liability
  • SoCro Art will take all reasonable care with submitted artwork; however, we are not responsible for any loss or damage during transit or the exhibition. SoCro Art is not liable for delays or failure to perform any of their obligations due to events beyond their control such as natural disasters, strikes or any unforeseen circumstances. The SoCro Art exhibition at the Click Clock Art Gallery is subject to any requirements and restrictions imposed by the Government or Local Authority.
  • Agreement: By entering the competition, artists agree to abide by these terms and conditions.
